Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine is a holistic approach to healthcare that blends modern scientific knowledge and medical training with the ancient wisdom of natural healing. The guiding philosophy in Naturopathic Medicine is to treat the root cause of disease using safe and gentle therapies, which stimulate the body to begin healing.

Naturopathic physicians (N.D.s or N.M.D.s) are general practitioners trained as specialists in natural medicine. They are educated in conventional medical sciences as well as complementary modalities. Naturopathic physicians treat disease and restore health using therapies from the sciences of clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, physical medicine, exercise therapy, counseling, Oriental medicine and acupuncture. They tailor these approaches to the needs of the individual patient. Naturopathic medicine is effective in treating most health problems, weather acute or chronic. Naturopathic physicians cooperate with all other branches of medical science, referring patients to other practitioners for diagnosis or treatment when appropriate.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle yet powerful tool for relieving pain and dysfunction, as well as improving whole-body health.  It is a healing technique that can facilitate deep, lasting change, addressing the root of our pain, not just the symptoms.

The primary focus in Craniosacral Therapy is the subtle movement of the cerebral spinal fluid that can be felt throughout the body. This fluid surrounds the brain and spinal cord which directs all body function, ranging from movement to digestion to emotions.  Few structures have more influence over your health and well-being.

By monitoring the rhythm of the fluid, patterns of holding and restriction are identified. Delicate manual techniques are then used to release these problem areas allowing the entire body to relax and health to be restored.

The Principles of Naturopathic Medicine:

  The Healing Power of Nature
This is the belief that all life contains a Vital Force that is ordered and intelligent and also has an inherent ability to maintain and restore health.

  Treat the Cause
Every illness has a cause, and by identifying and removing the cause, healing can occur. Naturopathic Doctors aim to treat the cause of illness rather than merely suppress the symptoms.

   First, Do No Harm
Minimizing harm involves using the least amount of force or intervention necessary to restore health.

   Doctor as Teacher
The role of the naturopathic doctor is to educate and empower patients while encouraging self-responsibility for health.

   Treat the Whole Person
Naturopaths recognize the importance of an individual’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health while taking into account the multiple factors in a person’s life that can lead to imbalance and illness.

  Prevention
Naturopaths aim to support wellness for individuals and their communities by monitoring risk factors and promoting healthy lifestyle habits.
